Dead Leaf Echo has an exceptionally ebullient sound
Interview by Ulises Miguel
When you listen to Dead Leaf Echo´s music you can imagine colors in different forms dancing to the rhythm of pop music. Where is DLE from? They are an art collective from Brooklyn, New York, and their debut LP is called “Thought and Language“. It was mixed by John Fryer, who has worked with Lush, NIN and Depeche Mode. In addition, artwork was maked by Vaughan Oliver, who has designed to Pixies and Bauhaus.
This is an excellent introduction to a new band with an exceptionally ebullient sound in their first EP and we talk with them about DLE’s music. First of all, this interesting band is proud of this EP, where songs emerge from an absolute mix of sweetness and dreamy sounds:
Naturally we’re proud to finally have it out there to the world; at this point it has done nothing to change our lives on a larger scale….yet. Struggles abound in the city as you make you way up in the world. Still hoping to press a 12″ vinyl version of the album”.

Time Out NY says DLE is “Some of the best live music in the city” of New York. Ana B. (guitar, keys and vocal), LG-Guitar (vocal), Kevin K. (drums) and Steve S. (bass) say too DLE is more than a band:
We’re a collective of friends and artists working together to create situations that will make it all a little easier for us to live and cope with the hardships of the world. Many things are possible, but all possibility is not definite. Keep that in mind when chasing dreams”.
They headlined the 20th anniversary of Beautiful Noise festival in the desert of Arizona; played SXSW supporting The Ocean Blue and the Warlocks the West Coast playing with Beach Fossils and they played live on KEXP.

About how DLE create music, they says there’s no set way to create…no set rituals:
Inspiration can strike at any moment. But you have to drag it out. Sometimes it can be difficult to show itself. Music creation starts at home, on the road, on vacation. Inspiration comes from art, literature, design and philosophy and ultimately nature.
Eventually it moves to a studio where we iron out the fine details. Our 1st LP “thought & language” was recorded in Brooklyn, New York and mixed in Olso, Norway. Location can move you to feel something from a different prospective.
Thought and Language has eleven tracks and DLE don´t have a favorite song from this EP: …these songs are like you children you can’t just pick one over the other. Some of these are Child, Dream of the Soft and Memory Traces and Kingmaker. This last was the first DLE’s single and it has a video:

Dead Leaf Echo is a band joining serenity of pop whit sensory disorder. Is a great band where maybe there is many influences of different artists. Perhaps some Jhon Lenon´s music is there because DLE highly recommend listen to ex Beatle.
In this year they have played whit “many amazing bands and the list is endless”, DLE say. Here are some bands that Dead Leaf Echo mentioned to us:
The Ocean Blue, Lorelei, Beach Fossils, Weekend, The Telescopes, The Warlocks, Whirr, Nothing, Half-String, Tennis System, The Mallard, Bloody Knives, Skeleton Coast, Nightmare Air, Heaven, Stargazer Lilies, Slowness, Highspire, Tyburn Saints, Beast Patrol, Shana Falana, Belgrade, Sua”.
Finally, from NY to Mexico, they tell us some word about our country:
Mexico is a part of the dream of seeing the world. A very huge part because of the millions of people that live in Mexico City”.
